Mijas

For many people, the name Mijas immediately brings to mind Mijas Pueblo, which is one of Andalucia's best-known whitewashed villages. What many don't realise is that Mijas is actually one of the largest municipalities on the Costa del Sol. It covers a diverse area, including coastal communities, golf developments and extensive residential neighbourhoods which stretch from the mountains all the way down to the sea.

It is located between Fuengirola and Marbella and is situated within easy reach of Malaga Airport. Mijas combines good accessibility with a choice of very different residential environments. The municipality stretches from the mountains down to the Mediterranean coastline and includes a mix of village, coastal and golf communities that continue to attract both Spanish and international residents.

Mijas Pueblo is located above the coast and remains one of the most recognisable villages in Andalucia. Its whitewashed houses, narrow streets and flower-covered balconies attract visitors throughout the year. Despite its popularity, it retains much of its original character. The views across to the coastline are impressive, and the village offers a selection of restaurants, cafés, craft shops and small boutiques. It is also home to one of Spain's few oval, as opposed to circular, bullrings.

Mijas Costa actually covers a very long stretch of coastline and includes well-known residential and tourist areas such as El Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda. Within these areas, you will find a combination of beaches, golf courses, restaurants, shopping facilities and everyday services. Property options in the area range from apartments close to the beach to townhouses and larger family villas.

La Cala de Mijas has grown significantly in recent years and has become one of the most popular coastal centres within the municipality and indeed on the Costa del Sol. Originally a small fishing village, it now offers a wide range of restaurants, shops and amenities whilst retaining a more relaxed and casual atmosphere than some of the larger resorts along the coast.

Looking further inland, Mijas Golf is one of the municipality's most established residential locations. It is centred around two well-known golf courses and offers a quieter environment with a mixture of apartments, townhouses and villas. The area remains popular with buyers looking for more space while still being within easy reach of Fuengirola, La Cala de Mijas and the surrounding coastline.

La Cala Golf has become one of the area's major growth areas in recent years. The La Cala Golf & Country Club, together with its golf courses, views and facilities, has become a major attraction and offers a relaxing place to live with easy access to all the amenities of the area.

Sports and leisure facilities are plentiful throughout the area. Residents will enjoy golf courses, tennis clubs, gyms, walking routes and a wide range of outdoor activities. The varied landscape means that both coastal walks and countryside routes are easily accessible.
