What makes a beachfront apartment work well for year-round living?

Not every beachfront apartment is designed for year-round living. Discover the features that make some Costa del Sol beachfront homes just as practical for everyday life as they are for holidays.

There are some Costa del Sol beachfront apartments that work really well for year-round living.

Many beachfront apartments on the Costa del Sol are designed primarily as holiday homes. They work brilliantly for a few weeks in the summer, but they are not always the sort of place where owners would genuinely want to spend time throughout the year.

What is interesting about some of the renovated beachfront communities now coming on to the market is that they offer something slightly different. They combine the relaxed atmosphere of a holiday property with the practicality needed for day-to-day living.

Communities such as Costalita del Mar on Estepona's New Golden Mile are a great example of this. This community of apartments is situated directly on the beach. It has beautiful swimming pools with landscaped gardens and is ideal for family holidays and visits from children and grandchildren. At the same time, within walking distance, you have supermarkets, restaurants, beach bars and everyday amenities. This allows owners to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle without needing to constantly use the car.

For many buyers, this balance is increasingly important. We talk to many people who are not just looking for somewhere to spend a few weeks in the summer. They are looking for homes where they can comfortably spend several months of the year, or even consider living permanently.

The newer style of renovations also reflects this change. They feature open-plan living areas, high-quality kitchens and practical terraces. Features such as underfloor heating and the inclusion of quality furnishings make these homes feel far more suited to modern living rather than just occasional use.

When we're working with grandparents, it's clear that these types of properties can work particularly well. They provide not only a secure and easy-to-manage home for most of the year, but they are also somewhere that grandchildren will genuinely enjoy visiting during the school holidays, thanks to the pools, outdoor lifestyle and close proximity to the beach.

Many of these communities are also well positioned between Estepona and Marbella, with easy access to golf courses, sports facilities, marinas and the international airports. At the same time, they maintain a quieter and more residential atmosphere than some of the busier tourist areas.

We are currently seeing a growing selection of renovated beachfront apartments becoming available along the Costa del Sol, particularly on the New Golden Mile and in communities close to Marbella and Estepona. While every property is different, the common factor is often the same combination of location, practicality and a lifestyle that works equally well for holidays and everyday living.
